Streetlifting vs weighted calisthenics: Key differences

What is Streetlifting?

Streetlifting is a sport where you combine street workout (using bodyweight exercises) and powerlifting (lifting heavy weights). The main goal is to add extra weight to exercises that you would normally do with just your body weight. While it started with just pull-ups and dips, it now includes muscle-ups and back squats in competitions too.

Understanding the Terms

While people often use “streetlifting,” “street workout,” and “weighted calisthenics” interchangeably, they’re not exactly the same:

  • Streetlifting is the competitive sport where athletes perform 2 to 4 specific exercises, trying to lift as much weight as possible.
  • Weighted Calisthenics means taking regular bodyweight exercises and adding extra weight to make them harder. This includes streetlifting exercises but also other moves like handstand push-ups and advanced holds like the front lever and planche.

Exercises in streetlifting

As described above, competitions consist of a maximum of 4 exercises.

  1. Weighted muscle-up
  2. Weighted pull-up
  3. Weighted dip
  4. Back squat with weight

To conclude, streetlifting is an exciting new sport that’s gaining a lot of attention. It’s a powerful mix of strength, skill, and athleticism, and it’s easy to see why people are so hooked on it!
